Introduction :
Purulia has long been a rich cultural zone of West Bengal. One can visit Purulia for various reasons. Purulia is traditionally popular for Chhau mask making. The Chhau mask is associated with Chhau dance form practised in West Bengal. Chhau dance is a warrior acrobatic dance form depicting mythological stories and acts wherein magnificent massive masks associated with energetic movements and loud drumming enliven the characters thereby making an unforgettable experience.
Wall painting is an historic art form practiced in many parts around the world including India, but unfortunately with modern times it is becoming a diminishing tradition. In few tribal villages of Purulia district in the state of West Bengal there are few remaining houses that still practice exterior wall paintings.
Purulia is a land of lush greens and hilly terrain along with some lakes and waterfalls. One can even witness spectacular temple architecture here. And if you are a photographer, Purulia will never disappoint you. It will offer you abundant opportunities to capture its landscape, culture and people.
