North East Tribal Photography Tour 2026 – Aoleang Festival, Konyak Head-hunters and Apatani Tribe Photography Tour
Date: 29th March – 5th April 2026 ( 8 days and 7 nights )
Mentor : Tania Chatterjee

Embark on a rare journey into the heart of India’s Northeast, where ancient traditions, vibrant festivals, and unique tribal cultures come alive through your lens.
We begin with the Apatani tribe of Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, renowned for their distinctive facial tattoos and nose plugs—once a marker of beauty and identity, today a fading cultural practice. The Apatanis are also admired for their sustainable wet-rice cultivation and harmonious coexistence with nature, making them one of the most fascinating tribes to document.
The journey will continue to Mon, Nagaland, during the grand Aoleang Festival of the Konyak Nagas. Celebrated in April, Aoleang marks the arrival of spring and is filled with vibrant dances, rituals, and warrior songs. Here, we will have the rare opportunity to photograph the legendary Konyak headhunters, once feared warriors, now aging custodians of a vanishing tradition. Their tattooed faces and traditional attire stand as powerful reminders of a culture at the crossroads of change.
This tour offers not just photography, but a deeper connection with stories, people, and traditions that are fast disappearing.
